Lumpenball, “rag ball,” a “German Mardi Gras.” As Mardi Gras ends the carnival season so does Lumpenball, and Lent begins (photo courtesy of Bonny Eberly).
Join us as we celebrate the end of the Fasching (carnival) season with our annual Lumpenball. This year we are joined again with our friends from the east – the Czechoslovak Moravan Club of Endicott, NY.
This year we will be entertained by Jude’s Polka Jets II and the Czech Club Dancers presenting in traditional dances for the season. The highlight of the evening is always the burial of the string bass, representing an end to revelry as we enter the solemn season of Lent.
We encourage everyone to dress in costume – often a hobo for a man and for woman, let’s say maybe you are dressed in a bit of a revealing manner hoping to draw some attention and maybe a few drinks from amorous males!
$5 / admission (food and beverage extra)
A full cash bar will be available as well as a broad selection of foods provided by the Czechoslovak Moravin Club at a-la-carte pricing –
…and assorted pastries and sweets.
holupki, halushki (noodles), cabbage dishes, keilbasi and piroghi with desserts.
Come and enjoy and evening of fun. Our evening will end with the burial of the bass at 8 pm.
Looking forward to seeing everyone for the first party of the new year!
